“Imagine an eye unruled by man-made laws of perspective, an eye unprejudiced by compositional logic, an eye which does not respond to the name of everything but which must know each object encountered in life through an adventure of perception.” –(Stan Brakhage)
This week’s topic is something artificial and man made in nature. I chose a quote that I believe represents man made vision of how we perceive our own world. In a man made world, it is hard to imagine a clear, untouched vision of what it means to be pretty or what it means to be ugly. In a manmade world, it is hard to distinguish logic in what is “right” versus “wrong” when there are thoughts that have already been preconceived of how the world is supposed to work. This quote reflects the theme of “something artificial” because it is important to not lose sight of what is really there and what is open for us to make our own interpretations. By taking the time to get to know each thing and object and person that we label in the world, we are able to take an adventure to understand the world and better understand ourselves as poeple living in a man made world where we have to carve a path in order to make a difference.
